At the moment the lending community is retracting from the market and their lending appetite are reduced. Combined that with the fact that many of these SME’s will be applying for funding using a set of accounts that covers a fiscal period unrepresentative of their ability to run a profitable business – badly affected by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This could mean that they’re ‘go-to’ high street banks will turn them away and in order to fulfill these HS2 contracts they will be forced to borrow from the wrong people at the wrong rates.
